ABOUT

Hybris: Disordered Cosmos is a modular worker placement game. It has a lore that mixes Greek mythology with steampunk.

The Olympians - Zeus, Hades, Athena and Poseidon - have vanquished the Primordial God Chronos, taking control over his kingdoms and the mortal world. The discovery of a new energy - the Aegis - dripping from his wounds paves the way to new powers and Technologies.

As they build their newfound godhood, they conspire to know who is going to be the new ruler. The young gods need to be cautious - lurking in the shadows the other Primordial Gods lie in wait, gritting their wrath upon those foolish Olympians.

MY ACHIEVEMENTS
  • Set up multiple playtests thanks to a paper prototype I made

  • Extendend the game by designing prototypes of a solo mode and a gameplay extension

  • Balanced the game through rational design and iteration

PLAYTESTS AND BALANCING

Thanks to a paper prototype I built, and to the many playtests we organized in different locations (in-studio, boardgame club, bar) we managed to balance the game properly before Canne's International Boardgame Festival where the game was showcased to players and publishers.

With the hard-work we put in it, the gale found a publisher and managed to launch on Kickstarter and in physical shops.

SOLO MODE AND GAMEPLAY EXTENSION

I designed the basis of a Solo & Co-op mode extension where players play against the AI.

In this game extension, players play against Cronos, trying to win the game before he releases out of his chains.

Here is an early paper prototype I made and tested:

And you can find below the final version in the released game, featuring some of the mechanics I designed:

Solo & Co-op released

I also designed the basis of a gameplay extension, starring a new  game area: the Tartarus. In this area, players can make a pact with the primordials to gain bonuses, or free prisoners and send it to another player.

Here is an early prototype I made to test it:
